Environmental Law Moot Court Team Competes In Nationals At
Pace.
The University of Florida Levin College of Law Environmental Law Moot
Court Team reached the semifinals of the National Environmental Law
Moot Court Competition at Pace University in New York in February.
Competing were John Kasbar, Kevin Regan and Natly Torres. Team coach
Tracy Fullington also is training for the team, and will participate
next year. "We are really proud of these students," said
Environmental and Land Use Law Director Alyson Flournoy. "Our
Environmental Law Moot Court Team also reached the semifinals in
national competition last year, so we feel this reflects well on our
program, our team and those who support it."
The team is funded by the Environmental and Land Use Law Section, the
law firm of Hopping Green & Sams, the Environmental and Land Use Law
Society, and student government. Students from more than 60 law
schools from across the United States and Canada compete in the annual
competition at Pace Law School. This year’s problem raised issues of
Clean Water Act jurisdiction over discharges into a dry arroyo, as
well as a Commerce Clause challenge to the assertion of jurisdiction
and various state-federal enforcement issues under section 309 (g) of
the Clean Water Act. The event tests oral and written advocacy skills
in appellate court litigation and provides law students with
first-hand experience in environmental law. It is the largest moot
court competition in the country held under one roof.
