Looking Forward… From the Affiliate Membership Chair
  J. Chris Herin

The affiliate group’s participation at the ELULS’s Annual Update at Amelia Island included transitioning in new leadership and laying the groundwork for providing support to the ELULS for the 2006/2007 year. In the upcoming year we’ll bring you:

• AMA – no, this is not the American Medical Association, but “Affiliate Mixers Again”. Fun to attend, these mixers serve as a business incubator for lawyers and affiliates as well as a way to recruit new members (please bring someone new along!). We have four mixers planned that will take place around the State; but could do more if there is interest. Each mixer is sponsored/funded by two affiliates and a law firm; and advertised individually. If you or your firm is interested in sponsorship, please let us know.
• Educational Articles & Webinars - You will be seeing increased affiliate activity in the production of articles (such as in this Section Reporter) and webinars as a part of our continuing efforts to enhance the educational offerings for lawyers. This is also an opportunity for lawyers and affiliates to co-author articles and provide webinars together. If you have topics that you would like to see addressed or if you would like to be a co-author, please let us know.
• Course Offerings & Speakers - We look forward to continuing to provide course offerings/speakers at ELULS events; most notably at the Annual Update. We recently covered topics on ethics, water supply, property transactions & development, contamination, and new regulatory changes. Please provide us with any feedback on these speakers and topics, as well as your suggestions for subjects that are useful to lawyers and affiliates. As a footnote, several of our affiliate members have expressed a willingness to speak at functions outside of ELULS. If you are involved in another organization and have identified the need for a speaker on a particular topic, please check with us to see if we can pair you up with a knowledgeable and entertaining speaker.

I would like to express my gratitude to Neil Hancock who has completed his term as Affiliate Membership Chair after a very successful 2005/2006. Thanks also to Kirk Burns who will continue in his role as the attorney Co-chair of Affiliate Membership. Our in-coming “Vice Chair” is David Bass whom I’ve known professionally for several years. I certainly look forward to working with both Kirk and David.

In closing, this should be a busy, exciting year of activities for the affiliate group, which we hope will enhance the knowledge of ELULS members. Also, if you know of any prospective affiliate members who you would like to see involved with the affiliate group, please pass their names on to me or invite them to attend one of our functions.

Chris can be reached via email at CHerin@GeoSyntec.com and telephone at 561-922-1041.
