Make plans now to attend the Section's Annual Update at the Plantation on Amelia Island. The Update lecture program covers most all pertinent aspects of environmental and land use law, kicks off on Thursday, August 17th, and runs through the following day. Detailed information on the program and registration are found elsewhere in this Reporter. Saturday, August 19th, is devoted to committee meetings and all members interested in serving on one of the Section's many committees are welcome to attend. In addition, the update will be preceded on Thursday morning by the Affiliates' Workshop which will focus on GIS (Geographical Information Systems), and includes a session on issues relating to consultants' contracts.
Two recent Section programs have focused on issues of increasing importance to Florida lawyers. Clean Water Act TMDLs (Total Maximum Daily Limits) were covered in great detail at our Tampa presentation on April 14. The Environmental Crimes Workshop, which was co-sponsored with the Criminal Law Section, took place on June 22 at the Annual Meeting of the Bar. With criminal enforcement of environmental regulations becoming more commonplace, this program should be of special interest to civil practitioners who may find themselves handling a "civil" matter which could ultimately be prosecuted criminally. Tapes for both of these programs along with those of other programs held during the last 18 months are available from the Section. For further information check the ELULS section website at
www.eluls.org.
This year the CLE Committee has increased the number of its meetings. An effort has been made to schedule meetings to coincide with the Section's Executive Council meetings, which occur at various locations around the state during the year. Any Section member interested in serving on the CLE committee is welcome to attend.
