COLUMNS

  Chair's Column
Sid Ansbacher

This is my final column as Chair of the Section. Among the few of you who might care about these columns, I’m sure there is a substantial percentage who will be grateful to see the end of the blabbing. It is, however, my last column. Therefore, I exercise the right to be in full blather.

     Thanks to so many people.

Thanks to Marty Dix. In 1988, Marty stepped down from his CLE liaison alternate position with the Section and asked me if I was interested in taking over his duties. Isn’t it amazing how such lowly beginnings can lead me to what I am today - - ignored and redundant? So many wonderful people were leaders of this Section. Among them are such friends today as Irene Quincey and Mary Hansen.
On a very personal note, many thanks to Fred McCormack, Jay Landers and Cari Roth, who were instrumental in drafting the legislation to rename the Flagler Beach State Recreational Area in honor of my (our) friend Gamble Rogers after he drowned trying to save a total stranger there in October, 1991. That is the only legislation that the Section has ever supported. It is one of the most wonderful acts we’ve ever performed.

I know I thanked the Bar staff. Nonetheless, Peg Griffin, Jackie Werndli and Cheryle Dodd are three of the finest people I’ve ever known. I am as fond of Gary Griffin and of Phil Werndli as I am of their wives. You all I will miss the most.

Thanks to Ralph DeMeo, who covered so many Section meals on his Hopping client development account. Atta boy, Ralph!
Thanks to the people who kept the Section going despite my best efforts to the contrary. Bob Fingar, Mary Smallwood, Larry Sellers, Michelle Diffenderfer, Joe Richards, and so many more. I am richer for having known you all, and my life will be poorer without you.
