  Law School Liaison Committee
Robert Riggio

The purpose of the Law School Liaison Committee is to coordinate the Section’s activities with Florida’s law schools in order to stimulate student interest in environmental and land use law.  The committee accomplishes this purpose through a variety of activities which seek to benefit law schools, their students and the communities they serve both academically and financially.  In recent years, increases in the number of Florida’s law schools as well as scholastic and professional opportunities, Section sponsored and otherwise, have increased the need for involvement by faculty and alumni in the Committee’s activities. This has resulted in a committee goal to have one or more such individuals on board for  each of Florida’s law schools before the end of the year  If you would like to lend a hand in this worthwhile endeavor, please drop me a line or an E-mail.

The winner of the recently completed Dean Frank E. Maloney Writing Contest was Daniel Peyton from Florida Coastal School of Law.  Daniel’s paper was entitled “Sovereignty Lands in Florida: Its All About Navigability.”  Second place went to Josh Korn of the University of Florida College of  Law for his paper titled: “Consumptive Use Permitting and Regulatory Takings.”  Third place was taken by Mr. David Steinau, also a student at the University of Florida, for his paper: “Legal Issues Affecting Forestry Practices and Wildfires in Florida.”  Formal recognition of these fine papers was made at the Annual Update at Amelia Island.
