This year's Annual Update at the Amelia Island Plantation was a great success. Our program included updates from the General Counsels of our main environmental and land use planning agencies; breakout sessions on environmental and land use law; and concluded with a stimulating panel on the Everglades Restoration effort. If you were unable to attend the Update, course materials and audiotapes for the seminar are available from the Florida Bar and will give you 11.0 hours of CLE credit, including 1 hour of Ethics credit.

Our Affiliate's Workshop this year preceded the Update and provided an in-depth look at Geographical Information Systems, including an informative session on consultants' contracts. Materials and audiotapes for the workshop are also available from the Bar and will give you 3.5 hours of CLE credit.

Our next CLE program is scheduled for November 3, 2000 in Tampa and is entitled "Sex, Religion and the Press: First Amendment Law for Local Government and Land Use Lawyers". The ELUL Section is co-sponsoring this seminar with the Local Government Lawyer's Section. The course materials will be circulating soon -- please sign up and attend.

Our CLE Committee meeting at Amelia was well attended and provided the Committee with excellent feedback on upcoming programs and new areas for the Committee to explore. A sub-committee on Technology was formed to look into alternative formats for our CLE programs, including internet based training programs, chat room discussions and tele-conferencing. David Ashton and Terry Zinn will be heading this sub-committee and welcome interested participants.

Our next CLE Committee meeting will be held in Tampa on November 3, 2000 at 1:00pm, prior to the Executive Council Meeting at the same facility as our CLE Seminar. All Section members are welcome to attend and participate. See you there. For any information on our upcoming events or on how to get involved, please feel free to contact me, your Chair Michelle Diffenderfer at MDiffenderfer@LLW-LAW.com or (561)640-0820 or either of my two co-chairs Susan Trevarthen at Strevarthen@wsh-flalaw.com or Melissa Gross-Arnold at MGross-Arnold@LLW-LAW.com.
